Thinking About Training or Converting to VTCT Level 4 in Micropigmentation?
Here’s Why I Did It…
I began my Permanent Makeup journey in 2005 with accredited training, and it was a solid foundation. It served me well, and I continued to grow my skills through years of hands-on experience and international masterclasses.
But when the VTCT Level 4 in Micropigmentation became available in 2016, I didn’t hesitate to convert to this Ofqual-regulated qualification. Why? Because after 30+ years as an educator in both private and public academies, I’ve always championed the importance of recognised qualifications.
It wasn’t about improving my practical skill set – I had already invested heavily in training and development. It was about professional recognition, future-proofing my business, and having the freedom to work anywhere in the UK, including London. I also wanted my training academy to become an official VTCT centre, so my learners could benefit from a credible, recognised qualification that would stand the test of time.
Fast forward to 2025. While the official licensing framework is still evolving, I’ve had no issues working across London, Hertfordshire and beyond. The paperwork is in place. The compliance is there. The process is smoother. And most importantly, I’ve helped many amazing artists, with 2 to 10 years of industry experience, convert to VTCT Level 4 after unexpected council visits left them in a panic.
My academy, Signature has a fast-track conversion pathway created to support experienced artists, provided their previous training meets high standards and they demonstrate competence in theory and practical skills. Once converted, they’re not only compliant – they’re confident.
And if you’re new to the industry? We offer a full VTCT Level 4 Micropigmentation qualification for beginners too in eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner as a full course or individual – all a Ofqual level 4. Whether you’re starting out or upgrading, the training framework is mapped with care, quality, and compliance in mind at my academy.
It’s true that not every council is enforcing Level 4 right now – even in my base areas like Milton Keynes and Luton. But the direction is clear: regulation is coming. VTCT has already created a pathway from beauty therapy level 2 through to level 7 injectable regulated training in injectables. I offer career mentoring if you are confused which course is best for you. Just reach out to me.
So here’s my advice: if you’re thinking about training in eyebrows, lips or eyeliner or converting an accredited certificate to VTCT Level 4 Permanent Makeup do it for the right reasons – professionalism, peace of mind, recognition, or simply being ready for the changes ahead then go for it. Don’t let fear, myths or social media noise cloud your judgement.
Your career. Your business. Your choice. But make it from a place of clarity and vision.
