Let’s rewind the clock for a moment. I wasn’t always in beauty, and I didn’t step into permanent makeup and aesthetics until my late 30s. Before that? I was in corporate sales, working long hours, raising a family as a single mum, and juggling multiple jobs – all while trying to keep my head above water.

Fast forward to today, and I run a clinic I love, teach professionals through my accredited academy, and support permanent makeup, beauty and aesthetic professionals to build a career that works for their life, not the other way around.

The Beauty Hustle: My Early Days

When I first trained in PMU, I hit the ground running – 50 case studies done in just a few months. I didn’t wait for confidence to show up; I grew through action. I also had a mentor (just a fellow business owner, not a formal coach) who helped me map out my goals. That planning gave me focus, and that focus gave me freedom. Eventually after 18 months I left my other jobs, one teaching skin in college, the other in a holistic centre as a massage therapist and in a local salon spray tanning and other beauty bits.

Most beauty pros start their business to have more time, flexibility, and income. But quickly, the opposite happens initially, the business starts running you. I’ve been there and that’s why I now coach and mentor other salons owners, solo beauty and PMU to start and scale their business so that it doesn’t control them:

We explore their mission, goals and values and get to start on understanding their business model (not just how to do treatments) and how to price correctly from the start (your worth matters). Building income that isn’t just “time for money” and very important how to use marketing and branding to attract their ideal clients that will value them and stay with them long term. Like mine have since 2005.

One thing I stand by. Never go cheap on training – it will cost you more in confidence, credibility, and correction. Your work is on someone’s face or skin so it needs to be performed with true skill. And your pricing should reflect that skill.
